From the State Director

I am taken aback every time I read the statistics (see below) of how many people are still yet to hear about Jesus, and the resources (or lack thereof) that the Christian world is putting into sharing the Good News.

There is something seriously wrong with this picture! Whatever happened to making disciples of all nations?

It is for this reason that I am passionately involved in the work of Global Interaction – empowering communities to develop their own distinctive ways of following Jesus. We are focussed on nine unreached people groups in Africa and Asia. I am excited about the prospect of seeing Western Australian Baptists with a rejuvenated passion for the unreached through greater missional engagement.

So I invite you to join with me in praying personally, and at devoted times in your churches, for the unreached people groups around the world. Ask God that they will have the opportunity to hear about Jesus in ways that truly resonate with them.

Andrew Duncan
State Director Western Australia

The plentiful harvest

There are still billions of people on earth who have never had the chance to hear Jesus’ message of Life.

Of the 16,000 people groups in the world, more than 6,000 are considered unreached. These groups do not have access to the gospel due to cultural, linguistic, political or other barriers. Less than 1% of people in these groups are believers, and Christians in nearby areas are not reaching out to them.

Currently 96% of Christian workers and resources are concentrated on the third of the world who already call themselves Christian. A further 3% is dedicated to another third who already have access to the gospel. This leaves a third of the world who have never heard the gospel, for which we have dedicated less than 1% of Christian workers and resources.

In our churches

There are a number of candidates and cross-cultural workers currently in Western Australia who are keen to share their stories with you (some profiled below). Please contact your State Office to arrange a time for them to visit.

Alan
Mozambique
After a short trip to Malawi in 2009, Alan was inspired to explore the possibility of ‘one day’ going to Africa for a few years. Alan was surprised to feel that nothing else made sense except to ‘go now’. Alan will spend two years with the Global Interaction team in Mozambique, as part of the Gi6pro program.

Ben and Sam
Mozambique
Ben spent 2007-2008 with the Global Interaction team in Malawi. During this time he met Sam, who was there on a Global Xposure trip. And what do you know - but a few years later they’re married and preparing to head back to Africa together! They will join the team serving the Yao people in Mozambique.

Scott and Rebekah
with Levi
Mozambique
Bek spent 2007-2009 living and working with the Yao in Mozambique. Last year Scott and Bek were married, and now together they are preparing to return to the team in Mozambique. They just recently welcomed the arrival of their first child, Levi.

These 25 recipes have been gathered from the bustling street-stalls of Asia, the earthern ovens of Africa and the colourful spice-racks of the Subcontinent…adapted for Aussie pantries and taste-buds. Sprinkled throughout is stunning photography and cross-cultural foodie stories, capturing the essence of a shared meal.

All proceeds go to the work of Global Interaction

Gi6pro is a generation of Christian professionals who would, in the spirit of Isaiah 6, the early believers and great mission movements in history, simply raise their hand under the call of the master and say, “here am I, send me!”

This is an opportunity for professionals to serve for one to two years in Asia and Africa with Global Interaction. When one of our teams has a specific need for help, they will ask for someone through the Gi6pro program. Right now we need:

PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHER

ROLE: primary school teacher for staff children, with the possibility of also teaching in local schools
WHERE: rural Thailand
HOW LONG: 1-2 years
WHY: to release the parents so that they can do church-planting work

TESOL TEACHER

ROLE: TESOL teaching to children & adults
WHERE: rural Kazakhstan
HOW LONG: 1-2 years
WHY: to build relationships with locals and help the team provide much-needed English classes in the town, giving credibility to our work

For more information about these and other Gi6pro positions please contact your State Director.

Please pray

We are dependent on God for all that we do, and prayer forms the foundation of our work. Each person who prays for the staff and ministry of Global Interaction is an important member of the Global Interaction family.

Click here for more information about how you can pray for the work of Global Interaction.
  • Pray that there will be a revival among the unreached people groups as they begin to discover the grace and love of Jesus.
  • Pray for strength, encouragement and discernment for all the Global Interaction cross-cultural workers as they seek to speak the name of Jesus.
  • Pray for more churches and individuals to partner with Global Interaction’s work both prayerfully and financially.
