Details

The community of Gondamara Union in Bangladesh lives under the ongoing threat of natural catastrophes, such as cyclones.  Located in this area is the Gondamara primary school which is free for students to attend, and it has been running since 1995.  The school is situated in the cyclone shelter at Gondamara which was built in 1995 after a massive cyclone hit the region in 1991.

Since its beginning, hundreds of students have graduated from the school and some have moved on to complete their higher education in different schools and colleges in different parts of the country. At present there are about 300 students at the school and eight teachers.

In 2010, the school was experiencing significant difficulty because some of its financial support was being withdrawn. As a result, the education of the current and future students was under threat.  A project was created to subsidise the teachers' salaries, and this project was well supported during 2011 for which we are very grateful!

We would like to be able to subsidise the teachers' salaries again in 2012.  A gift for this project is a great investment in the education of many children who otherwise could probably not afford to go to school.
