Details
Education and Community Development go hand in hand. The Cambodian Government’s National Literacy Policy includes a goal to provide
every citizen, especially women, out-of-school children, child workers, ethnic minority [groups]… and vulnerable groups with opportunities for education throughout their whole lives.
In northern Cambodia, Pip and the team she works with have an educational component in almost every one of their activities. They provide text books and other educational resources to help hundreds of children study at home as well as at school. They partner with local schools that teach English to children, youth and young adults. They hold an annual English Camp. They teach stories from the bible as part of a ping pong program for children who are out-of-school or who study at a low grade level. In addition, they visit a Drug Detention Centre, providing young adults with recreational and simple educational activities.
Help Pip and her colleagues continue their grassroots development projects.
Sample costs:
Ping pong costs (bats and balls, tournaments): $1,800
English camp (3 days for 100 young people): $2,400
English teacher staff costs: $2,500
Community development worker staff costs: $1,000
Drug detention centre visits: $1,380
