Details

Local language is important for survival in the village where John and Glenda are living, as very little English is spoken there. Proficiency in the local language is critical for building close relationships with people and having the opportunity to share the deepest and most important things with them.

This year, John and Glenda’s language learning has moved out of the country’s main city and into the rural village they now call home, where they will spend regular time with a local language helper. From time to time, they will also do brief stints at the language school in the city to clarify questions that have arisen.

Learning about the culture is also essential for effective communication and good relationships. John and Glenda will purchase resources to supplement their formal language studies and develop a greater cultural understanding.
