John is the Team Leader for the Silk Road team, so having John and Glenda present and available for team members is critically important.

John and Glenda assist in the English program and they love nurturing the relationships they are slowly building with their neighbours.  Their main contribution, however, is in the role of Team Leader.  They provide pastoral care and guidance in the cross-cultural context, which assists the team to achieve their strategic goals.  They also need to guide team members through the complicated processes for gaining and renewing visas, and provide administrative support to the team.  There is a lot of administration required!

Providing this leadership is costly in terms of both time and money.  The rural village where most of the team live is a couple of hours away from the city.  John and Glenda make regular visits to the city in order to spend time with the new team members who each live there for their first year in order to focus on language study.  Must of the administrative work needs to be completed in the city as well. 

With each round trip taking 5 hours, there are significant travel costs expected during 2012, associated with leading the Silk Road team, including the following:
Fuel $1,700
Repairs and maintenance $950
Insurance $320
Accommodation $2,100
Stationery and other admin costs $730
