Arthur's primary focus at present is on learning the language and culture of the Khmer people.  He desires to be able to speak with people in their "heart language" about the important matters of life, but before that he needs to do the hard slog of learning to read and speak the language.  He also needs to gain a deeper understanding of the local culture, which can only come with time and experience.

In order to gain an understanding of Khmer culture, Arthur immerses himself in the local community through strolling through the markets and making friendships, going to the gym/cafe, sharing a meal with the Tuk-Tuk drivers out the front of his apartment block, and just linking up with others in and around the local community as much as possible.

Language study involves attending the local language college three times per week for 1.5 hours per lesson. This is primarily study-time with his own personal tutor. He also spends at least an extra 1.5 hours per day revising and listening to recordings of the lessons. Most days, Arthur spends time practicing his language and being helpfully corrected by the friendly locals!  Once a week, with a Khmer tutor, he also privately practices phonetics (study of the sounds used in speech) for about an hour.  It's hard work, but worth it!  By contributing to this project you will be making a valuable investment in Arthur's long term future in Cambodia.
