Details
Living in Outback Australia means travelling long distances, and this is definitely the case for our team members! Norm & Karen, Bill & Pauline and John & Angela each support a number of remote church communities, which means a lot of time on the road travelling from one community to another.
The team agree that one of the best ways they can be supported and partnered with is to help with their travel costs. Norm and Karen travel the 1,050km circuit between the churches they support at least 20 times a year. John travels frequently to the “nearby” communities which are 180km away and travels up to 14 hours to visit the more remote communities. Bill and Pauline travel between very remote communities on a lot of dirt tracks which are often very rough. For them to “visit town” and go grocery shopping (every 4-6 weeks) the round trip is about 1,100km!
The fuel costs are significant, but the major cost is maintaining their vehicles. Long distances, extreme heat in Summer and roads which are often unsealed and in rough condition take their toll on the vehicles. The costs, however, are worth it to ensure that the church leaders are supported and nurtured.
Project costs:
$15,000 travel costs
$55,000 vehicle maintenance costs
