Details
Ayla will be helping some of the Mozambique team's families with their children's education, so won't need to become fluent in Ciyawo, the local language. She will, however, need to spend some time learning basic language skills so she can undertake simple day to day tasks such as buying food at the markets and answering questions at police checkpoints and other places. This communication will be in Portuguese, the national language of Mozambique. Ayla will meet with a tutor on a regular basis and will have lots of practice to keep her busy between their meetings!
Culture learning is important and is an ongoing focus for all members of the Mozambique team, whether they are there for a year or two, or have been there for many years. There is always something new to learn, as they try to see the world through another person's eyes.
