The Need

Papua New Guinea (PNG) has a population of 7.3 million spanning over its mainland and 600 islands. English, Tok Pisin (Pidgin), and Hiri Motu are the official languages with over 800 other listed languages. 87% of the population live in rural areas with the population density averaging 16.1 (Australia is 3.01, Bangladesh 1,203). Most Papua New Guineans profess to be Christians, however, traditional animistic practices continue to be embedded in societies.

Our Response

From the first Baptist ministry in 1949 there are now over 400 local churches within the Baptist Union of Papua New Guinea. Global Interaction Consultant Geoff Cramb works alongside local leaders so they can effectively lead their movement in ‘Believing God and Serving Wholistically’.
