Discovery Bible Method allows participants to discover God’s truth for themselves.
 
This is a simple tool that is useful for intercultural ministry. Discovery Bible Method empowers others from any faith background to explore the Bible and to hear from God in their own distinctive ways.
 
Resources needed:
  • Bible 
Activity:
  1. Invite participants to open the Bible to a particular passage.
  2. Instruct one participant to read out the passage while everyone else listens.
  3. Following this, instruct a second person to read out the passage while everyone else listens. If possible, read this using a different version/translation of the Bible.
  4. Invite people to share what they think is happening in the passage in their own words. As a facilitator, avoid telling people what you think is the ‘correct’ interpretation of the text. The truth is, people from different backgrounds and cultures might draw completely different lessons from the scripture.
  5. Finish by asking people “What might God be saying to you?” or “What is one thing you can learn from this?”

  • Genesis 1:27-31 God makes man and woman
  • 1 Kings 18:30-39 Elijah calls on God
  • Psalms 23:1-6 God as our good shepherd
  • Isaiah 53:3-9 Jesus sacrifice and death foretold
  • Matthew 3:11-16 The baptism of Jesus
  • Mark 4: 35-41 Jesus calms the storm
  • John 20:1-9 Jesus resurrection
