Jean-Claude and Joyce, along with their children Chris, Ornella, Venerande and Isabella, live and serve among the Yawo of Malawi, arriving in late 2018.
Jean-Claude was born in Burundi and grew up amid a war-torn society. Both lived in a refugee camp before arriving in Australia. When he arrived in Australia, Jean-Claude had no desire to return to Africa and looked forward to building a family in his new country. However, God was calling Jean-Claude to train as an intercultural worker and return to Africa. He has a diploma in Multicultural Ministry and an associate degree at Malyon College. Furthermore, he is an ordained Baptist Minister who carried the role of senior pastor for 12 years, where he met Joyce.
Jean-Claude and Joyce share a passionate love for God and people and desire to see the Yawo follow Jesus within their cultural context. They are building relationships with their Yawo neighbours and investing in their culture and language learning with a local language nurturer so they can effectively communicate with their Yawo friends.
They are grateful for the prayers and financial support they receive as they actively seek to build meaningful relationships amongst the Yawo and see communities transformed as they follow Jesus in ways that make sense to them.
