Exciting New Appointment

Thursday 29 Feb

Welcoming Rev Elliot Keane as our First Nations Engagement Facilitator!

Baptist Mission Australia is excited to announce the appointment of Rev Elliot Keane into the new role of First Nations Engagement Facilitator.

The new role will focus on the facilitation of listening and learning pathways, so Baptist Mission Australia is hearing the voices, stories, needs, hopes, dreams and missional aspirations of First Nations people, communities, and churches.

Executive Director Scott Pilgrim said the organisation was looking forward to Elliot commencing in the new role and helping the organisation to strengthen relationships and ministry partnerships with First Nations people and communities. “Elliot has a demonstrated his passionate heart in coming alongside First Nations people. He models a humble, gracious listening and learning posture and is a proven innovative, missional leader.” Scott said.

Elliot will commence in the new part-time role next in March. He will also continue to serve part-time with the Baptist Churches of South Australia & Northern Territory as their Leadership Development Facilitator.

Elliot said he was looking forward to continuing the learning journey alongside First Nations Christians, facilitating connections with emerging First Nations' leaders and missional opportunities. “I am eager to invite local Baptist churches across Australia to join in the adventure of learning, hopeful reconciliation, and mission, joining God where He is already at work amongst First Nations Australians. We have so much to learn from our sisters and brothers.”

Elliot said his family had been on a journey of listening and learning in relationship with First Nations people, choosing for several years to say “yes” to every invitation and opportunity to meet, sit with and learn from First Nations people.

“We have been blessed by the generous and gracious hospitality of many First Nations friends and leaders who have patiently spoken into and reshaped our way of life. I have had the privilege to walk (and swag!) on country experiencing culture, faith, and landscapes in new and different ways. It has been a remarkable experience, and we are grateful for the extended family we have become part of across Australia,” Elliot said.

The First Nations Engagement role will include:
  • The identification of and implementation of appropriate leadership and missional training for emerging First Nations leaders
  • The exploration, piloting and development of new First Nations’ holistic missional initiatives and partnerships
  • Supporting Baptist Mission Australia in identifying genuine and practical reconciliation initiatives, which reflect God’s heart for justice and compassion
  • Appropriate resourcing and support to our wider Baptist movement
Please join us in praying for Elliot, his wife Sarah, and children Aari (14), Roni (11) and Tori (9) as Elliot moves into this new season of ministry.

Baptist Mission Australia acknowledges the partnership of the Baptist Churches of South Australia and Northern Territory in supporting Elliot’s appointment as he also continues to serve with the SA-NT family of churches.
