Over the last 30 years in Malawi and Mozambique, the power of God’s Word and Him speaking through the Bible has been evident in the lives of Yawo people.
There remains a massive need and desire for the Word of God in Yawo communities. Most Yawo are still illiterate, or functionally illiterate, so they rely on others to read the Word of God to them in Ciyawo. Yawo culture is an oral one and teams in Malawi and Mozambique have experienced success in sharing audio Bibles with communities who don’t have access to Bibles.
Audio Bibles become as treasured as written Bibles and have a lasting impact of the lives of the listeners. People have the capacity to hear, recall and even cross reference passages in much the same way someone might if they were studying a written Bible.
We are seeking to raise enough money to purchase 600 Audio Bibles from the Malawi Bible Translation recorded version to distribute through the communities in Malawi and Mozambique we have contact with – we are excited to see what God will do when more people have access to His Word in a familiar dialect.
For the Malawi Yawo, this is in their heart language. For the Mozambique Yawo, while they continue to work towards an Oral Bible translation, this bridges the gap with a dialect they can understand even though it is not their heart language. This project makes the Bible accessible for the growing number of interested seekers and for many who are yet to hear the good news of Jesus.
