Dave and Caz share the importance of humility.
Long-term team members Dave and Caz open up about how it is through our humility and brokenness that Jesus is made meetable.
“As we move into the ‘world’, culture or community God sends us to, we go as learners. We need to know their words. We need to know the meanings attached to those words. We need to know how they understand the world around them, the world in which we now live. This process requires that we practice humility. We’ve realised that humility is not something you have. Humility is something you do.
But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all surpassing power is from God and not from us. 2 Corinthians 4:7
- Knowing who God is (the treasure)
- Knowing who I am (the clay jar)
- Accepting that reality
- Living accordingly and willing to be broken
In the process of entering their world, our clay jars are cracked, chipped and broken. The result is that the people don’t see us (the clay jars). They see Jesus (the treasure). As we grow in our ability to participate in the host world, God uses our brokenness to make us usable. It is our humility and the brokenness that follows that makes Jesus meetable.”
