India has the second largest population in the world and is one of the fastest growing economies. There are over 1.2 billion people mostly living in rural areas working in the agricultural sector. Major urban industries include telecommunications, textiles and pharmaceuticals. Over 80% of the people adhere to Hinduism, with only 2.3% of people known to be following Christ.

Global Interaction has been involved in Assam in North East India since 1947, seeing churches established among the Boro, Rabha, Garo and more recently, the Adivasi people groups. Global Interaction supports these churches through scholarships for leadership training, subsidies for ministry programs and visits by Australians for teaching and pastoral encouragement.

Our response

Global Interaction has a memorandum of understanding with the Baptist Churches of Mizoram, whereby a number of cross-cultural workers from Mizoram, in North East India, are seconded to serve with our Global Interaction cross-cultural teams.
