Recent Updates

2/4/20 - The team is making adjustments to the running of the café in light of COVID-19 and are looking to finish renovations and plan for the year ahead. A significant portion of the project consists of the running costs such as rent, equipment, local staff wages and business operations. As they review and plan for the future, they are working on new initiatives to continue the business in this challenging season and will be updating some equipment, expanding marketing, increasing training of staff and are looking to raise funds to provide emergency wage assistance and health assistance, during the COVID-19 Pandemic, to best care for their staff.

Without the income from this business, the local employees have no government assistance to support them if income does not come in. Our team wants to ensure the local staff members have two months’ wages for each staff member, should the café temporarily have to close – which is only a contingency plan, it has not yet been required. Another big focus in 2020 is team building. As Daz and Bee settle in to running he café, they want to focus on team building, strengthening skillsets practically and personally so their staff are well supported at work and can use these new skills in their professional and personal lives, particularly in areas of finance and looking after their families now and for the future.

The purpose of the café is to run a sustainable business with a thriving team of local staff from lower socio-economic backgrounds who are well trained professionally and personally.

Due to the nature of the work of the café and our desire to offer the best possible project practice, we are no longer able to offer tax deductibility for this project from 1 April, 2020. The team is working hard on an updated project plan for the sustainability and best possible running of the café. Rent has been paid for another two years, Daz and Bee are settling into their roles in running it, they’re enjoying the café team and are taking the time to revise and reshape the café to make it as effective as it possibly can be, both as a business and as a place of hospitality and connection for so many in the community.

The work it does strengthens the community and they want to be able to focus on the vision and purpose of the business and its potential. We thank you for your continued support. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.
The Global Interaction team in South-East Asia team has run a café in a bustling local city since 2012. The café is run, supporting the employment and training of staff from low socio-economic households in the local area and supporting behaviour change initiatives around better environmental management. It works in collaboration with the team’s other core initiatives. As the team works towards running a profitable hospitality business, all profits are intended to support the community development initiatives of other platforms, co-located with the café, including a Waste Bank and Children’s library.

This project covers training for local staff, location rent, a team building retreat, marketing, emergency staff assistance, eco-friendly equipment and some travel and transition needs as the former director trains and hands over the role to newer intercultural staff.
Funds raised by this project will secure the core work of this café for a further three years.
Gifts to this project are NOT TAX DEDUCTIBLE (as of April 1, 2020).
